On the plane, in pure contemplation of the first sunset ever seen on a plane, I make a commitment: “I will have an amazing time in Bali.” You see, I truly believe we are designers of our opportunities and not victims of our context. Making commitments and respecting them helps me a lot to arrange things in my life and in my travels the way I want them. It doesn’t function as a magical wand, though. At the beginning, it doesn’t come naturally at all. Just like the smile therapy that you might be familiar with. At the beginning, you feel really stupid and unease. After a while, once you listen less and less to the little voice, the sabotaging little voice, it happens spontaneously: you make commitments and stick to them.
